We teach and practice a type of meditation known as Mahasati meditation. Mahasati in Pali means “great awareness.” It is a form of Vipassana or Insight meditation which originates in Southeast Asia. Mahasati meditation cultivates self-awareness initially through attention to the movement of the body and, at intermediate and more advanced levels, to the movement of the mind. This ultimately leads to a direct and profound understanding of the origins of suffering in human experience and points the way toward ultimate liberation. While Mahasati meditation has its roots in Buddhism, it is not necessary to accept any type of religious doctrine in order to practice. It is also possible to practice it conjointly with other forms of religious practice.

Saturdays: 10:00 – 11:30am (no beginner class on first Saturday of the month)

People new to our Center are encouraged to attend our introductory class which takes place every Saturday morning, except the first Saturday of each month, from 10:00 to 11:30. The introductory class is not offered on the first Saturdays of the month due to our monthly retreats.

This introductory class is appropriate for all new visitors, whether they have previous meditation experience or not, as it introduces visitors to our particular practice and the Meditation Center in general. Please arrive a few minutes early for the class as we will start promptly at 10:00am. If your schedule is such that it is not possible to attend on a Saturday, then please email us, at info@ReddingMeditation.org to schedule a personal introduction during one of our other scheduled meditation times.

There is no formal charge for the introductory class, or any of our meditation practice sessions, but your donations are appreciated and necessary for our survival.
